The African fashion publication named the Grammy-award winning singer/actress the Belle of The Ball. Publisher of ARISE released a statement to Reuters about Alicia’s cover gig.

“As a chronicle of African achievement, ARISE is proud to support Keep a Child Alive’s Black Ball,” says Nduka Obaigbena, chairman and publisher of ARISE Magazine. “Keep a Child Alive provides HIV treatment, surrounding care and support all of which empower families and communities to achieve their full potential. ARISE’s support of Keep a Child Alive reflects the magazine’s promotion of Africa as a region on the path of great growth.”

According to Nduka the issue would have coverage and exclusive scoop from the 6th Annual Keep A Child Alive Black Ball Event.

Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, and Alicia Keys are talking about their roles in the new film The Secret Life of Bees in the new issue of Ebony Magazine.

Alicia reveals she resorted to wearing a fake tan on the set of the movie after trips to tanning salons failed to make her look darker.

“They made fun of me the whole time. I would tell Queen: ‘I’m darker than you’. She’d say: ‘Whatever, just wait till all that makeup comes off.’”

Spike Lee had planned to pair Alicia with Kanye West for a sequel to his 1988 flick “School Daze,” which starred Laurence Fishburne, Giancarlo Esposito and Tisha Campbell-Martin. He had what he called a “very good script.” Apparently, not enough people thought so because he can’t get funding for it.

“The film takes place at the same college but 25 years later, but the powers that be didn’t want to tell that story,” Spike said.

“I don’t partner with anybody, but this really was natural for me because I’ve been a fan from the beginning,” she told OK! at Madison Square Garden before departing on her European tour with Jordin Sparks. Her signature flavor is the lemonade-like Multi-V, which touts vitamins from A-Z. But Alicia has a deeper reason for signing with the beverage company.

“I love their personality,” she said. “Have you ever read the bottles? Don’t you just feel naturally smarter when you read it?”

At 125 calories per bottle, it’s a good thing she’s giving nightly performances which, she admitted is a workout of its own. To stay fit, the singer sticks to a diet of egg-white omelets, oatmeal, fish, veggies and brown rice, but she has to be careful about when she eats.

“One time I ate right before going on stage and I had to hide my belches from the microphone – that was funny!”

Alicia took a more serious approach when OK! asked her about her trip to Africa and her involvement with AIDS prevention organization Keep a Child Alive.

“There are so many stories to tell and so many things going on in the world, and when you’re able to see it first-hand, I think it gives you a more empathetic feeling about it. I felt like I want to dell everybody I could about what I’d seen and the way we could erase it and prevent it.”
